Process and development of dietary reference intakes: basis, need, and application of recommended dietary allowances

Article Abstract:

The National Academy of Sciences and its Food and Nutrition Board have expanded the plan used to determine dietary allowances. They wanted to include possible relationships in the definition of adequacy to chronic diseases or conditions difficult to blame on high or low consumption of one nutrient, yet linked to diet. The first set of dietary recommended intakes was to be completed by late 1997 with input from Canadian scientists.

Recommended dietary allowances: the industry perspective

Article Abstract:

The industry perspective on recommended dietary allowances (RDAs) includes the view of nutrient labeling, 'at risk' groups, marketing and consumers. When new RDAs are developed, it is desirable to rethink the ways they will be used and to contemplate what they mean for the food industry. The food industry needs to know which vitamins are not consumed in necessary quantities and needs a range for each nutrient.

Current status of recommended dietary allowances in southeast Asia: a regional overview

Article Abstract:

Current status of recommended dietary allowances (RDAs) in southeast Asia has helped researchers formulate a regional overview. have been discussed by Different body weights are used in different countries, which makes comparing RDAs difficult. RDAs for most countries were not based on adequate experimental data. How much the RDAs are practiced is not clear.
