The development of a nutrition policy in Switzerland

Article Abstract:

An overview of the nutritional habits and policies in Switzerland since the World War II era is presented. A National Nutritional Council was formed in 1940 to monitor the country's nutritional status and help shape policy. The incidence of heart disease in Switzerland has remained comparatively low despite increases in fat, salt, and sugar consumption and decreases in complex carbohydrate consumption. The country has adopted international dietary recommendations as proposed in 1992.

Nutrition and food policy in Norway: effects on reduction of coronary heart disease

Article Abstract:

Several elements of Norway's approach to national nutritional policy appear to have contributed to its success. This approach involves the cooperation of all levels of food delivery and nutritional research, attaching and publicizing specific goals with specific recommendations, and targeting at-risk groups based on scientific surveys. This multi-faceted but comprehensive approach has resulted in significant reductions in heart disease among the Norwegian people.
