Urban nutrition in developing countries

Article Abstract:

The demographic population shift from rural to urban communities in developing countries has spawned problems concerning food contamination, food habits, higher consumption of street foods and access to health care. The similarities and differences in diet, nutrition and health effects of diet and lifestyle between rural residents and urban poor have remained largely unexplored, despite the significance of such knowledge in designing health and nutrition programs for the urban poor.

Weekly versus daily oral iron administration: are we asking the right questions?

Article Abstract:

A study designed to determine the most effective and efficient dosage schedule for oral iron for therapeutic purposes revealed no significant differences in the iron status who received a 50-mg dose of elemental iron on a daily basis from those who were administered iron on a weekly basis. A closer look into the issues influencing iron uptake in women, particularly those from the Third World countries, need to be done to inform social policy.
