Various dietary fibers have different effects on lipase-catalyzed hydrolysis of tributryin in vitro

Article Abstract:

Various types of fiber were studied to determine their effect on in vitro lipase hydrolysis of tributyrin under conditions similar to the human duodenum. Some fibers such as red wheat bran, white wheat bran, oat bran and sugarbeet fiber retarded lipolysis. Most fibers such as psyllium seed, pectin LM 12CG, pectin slow set, carrageenan, carboxymethylcellulose, gum arabic did not. Aqueous extracts from red and white wheat bran and oat bran were also compared with the intact brans for their effect on lipolysis rates. Extracts contributed 32 to 41% for the wheat brans and 100% of the inhibitory effect for oat bran.

An overview of recent developments in avian lipoprotein metabolism

Article Abstract:

Lipoprotein metabolism in birds is similar to that of humans except that the former involves a more efficient delivery system. In birds, lipoprotein activity is directly pertinent to the development of the egg yolk which needs cholesterol and other water-insoluble nutrients. A more thorough knowledge of avian lipoprotein metabolism is useful for determining similar processes in laying hens and other poultry, which should lead to economic benefits for poultry raisers.
