WHO and FAO joint consultation: fats and oils in human nutrition

Article Abstract:

An international conference convened by the World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization in October 1993 in Rome on public health, food science, and technology, examined the extent of desirability of fats and oils in human nutrition. It concluded that while excess intake of dietary fat can result in obesity, heart problems and cancer, certain minimum intake is essential for the human body in order to meet energy needs. Various other recommendations relating to requisite intake of fat for various age-groups and also oil-processing techniques are discussed.
