Will housing demand outrun log supplies?

Article Abstract:

Demand for lumber may soon outstrip supply, as housing starts and remodeling both rebound from the recession. The result is expected to be increased prices. Composite lumber prices, already at record highs, rose $30 per 1,000 bd ft in the first two weeks of 1993. Wood-products firms are forecasting profits as high as 40% for 1993. However, smaller companies without adequate supplies will not share equally in the profits.
