1930s: carefree summers

Article Abstract:

A woman remembers the 1930s as a time when her mother sewed all their clothes, baked their bread and cooked their meals to stretch his father's meager pay. She has fond memories of 'black-and-whites' which are halfway between a cake and a cookie. They tasted delicious and she always associates them with special events and carefree summers.
