A colonial home for today

The two-story Colonial homes of Mary and Scott Schmidt was built in 1989 but it exudes an aura of the late 1700s. It has dentil molding, shutters over the windows and a tomato-red front door. Inside, the curtains are hand-stitched, potpourri fills the air and a roaring fire warms the hearth.

Many people living in the Midwest like to design and decorate one of their rooms so that it can be used as a place where people can warm up and relax on a cold winter's day. How three Milwaukee, WI, area residents have designed their own winter living rooms is described.
