The perception that the border between the U.S. and Mexico has dissolved spawned xenophobia that found its manifestation in the racist Proposal 187. An alternative solution to the Anglo-Chicano rift is to shift perceptions: from antagonists to protagonists in the creation of a multicultural existence, each 'Other' needing the 'Other.'
