Challenges in the 106th Congress

Article Abstract:

The American Legion has tabled four issues which would be their priority when the 106th Congress resumes its sessions in Jan 1999. The proposals are a budget increase for the Dept of Veterans Affairs, the GI Bill of Health, the tobacco-related claims of veterans and concerns on military readiness.

Resurrecting Europe

Article Abstract:

The American Legion lobbied for the support of the Marshall Plan to aid Europe in its economic recovery in the aftermath of World War Two. The efforts of the Legion helped enlist Congress' support for the proposal and, in Apr 1948, Pres Harry Truman was to sign the European Recovery Plan.
