How do you make a movie sing: in "Moulin Rouge," Baz Luhrmann has tried to do the impossible - revive a form that makes us cringe

Musical cinema is considered box-office poison at major studios, hence, the dubbing of Luhrmann's "Moulin Rouge" a "motion picture experience," rather than a musical. Luhrmann discusses his plans for pushing musicals into the public consciousness again, which include some of the radical techniques in "Moulin Rouge."
