Incompetence is bliss

A social psychology research project by Justin Kruger and David Dunning tested people's perceptions of their own competence. The results support the contention that self-delusion underlies most psyches, as we all seek to 'never let 'em see you sweat.'

A Cornell University study, "Unskilled and Unaware of It" finds low levels of self-awareness of incompetence. There may some social benefit to our innate unawareness, as self-doubt can be crippling.
