An overview is provided of the Massachusetts town of Taunton, which has had its downtown area revitalized to compete with and complement the local shopping mall. The area was renovated and updated under the auspices of a nonprofit group called the Heart of Taunton (HOT), which has introduced cultural events and family activities to draw people into the downtown area.

Schoolteacher and collector Kent Bicknell of Sanbornton, NH, became a Louisa May Alcott devotee and bought an unpublished manuscript of hers in New York. After restoring 'A Long Fatal Love Chase' he sold the rights to it to Random House for $1.5 million.
