Rescuing the river of grass

Article Abstract:

The Everglades is a 4000 square-mile segment in the southern portion of Florida that is characterized by the tall saw grasses that rise out from its rivers. Today the area is environmentally protected because land development in the area had nearly wiped out the Everglade's fragile ecosystem.

Map and compass madness

Article Abstract:

Orienteering is a sport that involves the use of a map and compass to find points along a predetermined course. The winner of the competition is the person who finds the points in the quickest time. One Washington, DC scout troop learned a lot about their city through the use of orienteering.
