Paddle a big canoe: Minnesota scouts relive the adventures of the voyageurs of yesteryear

Article Abstract:

People who hauled goods and furs across the Great Lakes by canoe hundreds of years ago were known as 'voyageurs.' Recently, scouts from Troop 23 in Bemidji, MN, experienced the hardships encountered by the voyageurs when they participated in a three-day canoe trip in Minnesota's Voyageur National Park.

Mission accomplished! Blind Scouts complete a wheelchair access ramp in one day of hammering and sawing

Article Abstract:

A troop of blind and nearly blind Boy Scouts spent a day building a wheelchair access ramp in Long Hunter State Park in Nashville, TN. The Scouts worked together on the project, with those with some sight helping those who are totally blind.
