The pervasive influence of 24-hour national news channels, begun with CNN's rise to prominence via Persian Gulf War hype, has morphed into essential American entertainment medium, disposable as popcorn. Some prime victims of the experience comment, including Monica Lewinsky, Woody Allen, Darva Conger, and O.J. Simpson.
