When safer is also cheaper

Article Abstract:

Over 60 million lamps are disposed of each year. They contain mercury and other harmful chemicals which remain in the environment indeffinately. The Regulations for the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSSH) cover the safe disposal of whole and crushed lamps but many electriacl contractors and lamp users continue to dispose of failed lamps in ordinary rubbish skips. The Soakup patented sack system for use with a lamp crusher ensures safe disposal and is cheaper than using a normel skip.
