The Case for Furniture Befitting the Human Condition

Article Abstract:

By 1990, sixty per cent of workers will be using VDTs. Companies must and are responding to health and productivity problems caused by VDTs through ergonomically-designed offices. Studies in individual firms show that well-designed workstations and offices translate directly into savings through improved occupational health, productivity and worker satisfaction. Good planning requires designing office space before building exteriors, as well as extensive pre- and post-construction studies. Architectural firms and design firms are rivaling each other for their share of a market which has increased 100 per cent since 1972. Photographs of a variety of offices are included.
