Trial by fires: ironically human efforts to save the forests have contributed to their destruction

Article Abstract:

Thomas Bonnickson, a forest ecologist todayEs says that forests are susceptible to deadly barkbeetle investigation and monstrous fires because they are naturally over grown and out of sync. Gene Zimmerman, San Bernardino a national forest supervisor feels that there are too many trees competing with too little water, which has increased the percentages of mortality.

Reform tramples 1st Amendment

Article Abstract:

There is little evidence that campaign contributions actually influence political candidates, and big businesses actually spend more money on lobbying than political fund-raising. Contributions to the candidate of one's choice are a form of free speech, and regulating those contributions would limit speech and undermine citizens' liberties.

Reform can save liberty

Article Abstract:

Soft money buys access to politicians that ordinary citizens cannot attain, and many people choose not to vote because they feel that they have no voice. Campaign finance reform seeks to limit the corrupting influences of soft money, so that politicians will not have conflicts of interest between their contributors and their constituents.
