US Postal Service Privatization

Article Abstract:

The authors discuss the possible privatization of the US Postal Service from opposite standpoints. Crane believes that privatization would be the only way for the Postal Service to emerge from its current financial difficulties, while Davis believes that a national mail system is one of the fundamental functions of government.

Should Congress cease funding National Endowment for Arts?

Article Abstract:

Republican Rep. Philip M. Crane feels that the government must not support the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) due to budgetary constraints. Meanwhile, Sen. Claiborne Pell, a Democrat, maintains that no further cut in NEA's budget must be made to avoid hurting its community arts programs.

Should Congress stop funding the National Endowment for the Arts?

Article Abstract:

Rep Cliff Stearns believes government cannot afford to continue funding for the National Endowment for the Arts due to budget problems and more pressing social programs. Rep Ted Weiss however, believes that it should continue, since it is government's duty to preserve the national heritage.
