Purchasing's new power

Article Abstract:

A study into the role of purchasing managers, in UK businesses, found about 40% were not key participants in making a choice over the purchase of computers and property. Some 39% of respondents confirmed they outsourced the management and development of information technology systems. Purchasing managers are involved with making good relationships with their suppliers in conjunction with reducing costs. Many companies failed to see purchasing as a vital department. The study was carried out by The Director periodical and involved 369 companies.

Uzbekistan, under President Islam Karimov, exercises strict control over fundamentalists militating for an Islamic state. A terrorist attack in 1998 brought stricter measures, resulting in the internment, exile or execution of all but a few of the country's Islamic militants.

Wild for mushrooms

Exotic mushrooms are gaining popularity in many restaurants and are now cultivated commercially. Button mushrooms are still a staple but the wild varieties are gaining more popularity including crimini, morel and portobello.
