Honeywell saves energy - and money

Article Abstract:

Honeywell Inc, recipient of the Environmental Protection Agency's 1997 "Energy Star Buildings Partner of the Year Award," largely benefitted from the agency's voluntary program. The program had aided the firm in achieving savings of $3.2 million in energy costs for the year 1996. The seven-year program encourages participating firms to use energy-efficient lighting, fan systems, motors and computers as well as conducting upgrades on heating and air-conditioning systems. Program measures such as these aid owners of US and commercial buildings to save on energy and help in preventing pollution.

Americans with Disabilities Act

Article Abstract:

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) makes it illegal for an employer to discriminate against a potential employee based on a disability. The ADA currently applies to employers with 25 or more employees, but after Jul 25, 1994, the law will apply to employers with 15 or more employees. Some states have already enacted similar laws for employers with fewer than 15 employees. The meaning of 'reasonable accommodation' and 'undue hardship' and other provisions of the ADA are discussed.
