Commuting, congestion and employment dispersal in cities with mixed land use

Article Abstract:

Actual employment turns out to be almost as dispersed as residences in American cities and this range of urban forms generates assumptions that land can have mixed rather than exclusive use at any location. The firms are trading-off a central-agglomeration force against the lower wages accompanied by shorter commuting distances in peripheral locations to avoid congestion.

The dynamics of local employment in France

Article Abstract:

The impact of local economic structure on local growth of plant size and number of plants was examined using French yearly data extracted from a survey about plant employment. The careful specification of short-run dynamics, and the control for fixed effects and endogeneity were found to be critical in the empirical model.
