Corruption: Its nature, causes and effects suggestions on the way forward

Article Abstract:

Corruption is more prevalent in areas where the state interacts with the public, like the police, granting of permits and judiciary and the opaque nature of corruption makes objective assessment difficult. It is high in poor countries and in countries where democracy is weak or non-existent, which can be combated by a democratic and transparent decision-making involving participation and involvement of civil society and encouragement of a free and vibrant media.

Leadership in the public sector

Article Abstract:

The comptroller's role in government accountability and the action to surface it and correct it is discussed. Discipline or punitive actions are not considered leadership tools, rather they are necessary techniques to address failure of leadership.

Public sector corruption in Bolivia

Article Abstract:

Effects of perceived probabilities of detection and punishment on corrupt behavior in Bolivia are illustrated. Results indicate that detection, and punishment of corruption acts is low, and culture of institutionalized corruption may exist.
