Do capital controls affect the response of investment to saving? Evidence from the Pacific Basin

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the effects of capital controls on the response of investment to saving showed little impact on saving-investment relationships in the Pacific Basin. Changes in capital controls since the 1970s are surveyed, and the Feldstein-Horioka test is explained. The results of six tests, including data from 13 countries, are outlined and interpreted. These indicated higher savings coefficients in countries with looser capital controls. No relationship between deregulation and the savings-investment relationship was discovered, however, in individual country regressions.

Factor utilization and margins for adjusting output: evidence from manufacturing plants

Article Abstract:

A description of the patterns of factor utilization and output adjustment at the plant level for manufacturing industries explains how manufacturing plants handle output adjustment. Technological differences among manufacturing plants can result to varying patterns of factor utilization that influence the relationships between costs and output changes. Empirical evidence is dependent with existence of some actual manufacturing plants with technologies that are similar with each of the theoretical extremes, pure continuous processors and pure assemblers.
