Does welfare play any role in female headship decisions?

Article Abstract:

The US welfare system does not encourage the existence of female-headed households for either whites or blacks. The study investigates how individual and state effects influence assessments of the effect of welfare benefits on decisions female-headed households. However, welfare program generosity is related to how the composition of population varies across states. Results of the study also show that an overstatement of the effect of welfare programs to family structure may have been made by earlier investigations.

National origin and immigrant welfare recipiency

Article Abstract:

An economic immigration model is developed and analyzed. The model focuses on the impact of national origin differences on welfare recipiency of immigrants to the US. It is shown that some source country characteristics define variances in welfare recipiency rates for various national origin groups. In addition, changes in these characteristics for foreign-born populations between 1970 and 1980 explain the increase in welfare for the period.

Generalized Samuelson conditions and welfare theorems for nonsmooth economies

Article Abstract:
