Frank Hill: a wheeler dealer comes of age

Article Abstract:

California state Senator Frank Hill's budget proposal intended to break the stalemate between Gov Pete Wilson and four state legislative leaders was defeated primarily because his Republican Party colleagues refused to support the bill. Hill, who co-authored his proposal with Democratic Assemblyman Phil Isenberg, lashed out at the Republican Party leadership in the state legislature for proposing budget cuts on education. Hill's proposal has increased his chances of being elected to a statewide office in 1994.

Back with the wind

Article Abstract:

Proposition 140's term limits, which barred every California Assembly member who was serving when the 1996 proposition was passed from being reelected, opens an opportunity for seven former members to get reelected. These former members are Steve Clute, Richard Floyd, Tricia Hunter, Ted Lempert, Bill Leonard, Tom McClintock and Lou Papan, of whom three are Republicans and four Democrats. They hope to take up leadership positions and perform well by virtue of their legislative experience and policy expertise.
