Making key management a sure bet

Article Abstract:

The Oneida Bingo and Casino launched Project Re-key to implement a new key management system throughout the casino. Employee access to various security keys was a slow and tedious process that took 15 minutes to complete. The casino engaged the service of Morse Watchman to install new locks and a key management system called The Key Watcher, which uses color-coded 'smart keys' and personal user codes to track keys. The use of the Key Watcher reduced employee waiting time from 15 minutes to less than 90 seconds.

Laptop theft soars; prevention includes lock-downs, RFID

Article Abstract:

The theft of laptop computers has become a serious problem which has received the attention of security managers and technology firms. The incidence of laptop theft is increasing by 10% annually with 265,000 stolen in 1997 and 309,000 in 1998. Some of the technologies devised to prevent laptop theft include linking a laptop to a card access control system which will trigger an alarm if a laptop is not linked in a database to a person holding it.

Integrated approach includes information security

Article Abstract:

Security managers of firms should also involve themselves in information security. This is due to the ever-increasing use of computers, networks and the Internet. An information security policy should be written in order for management to avoid liability, to establish a basis for disciplinary actions and to demonstrate the clear and unequivocal support of top management.
