Optimal taxation, prudence and risk-sharing

Article Abstract:

The trade off between the incentives effect of uncertainty and the welfare benefit of social insurance in the design of optimal tax schedules is discussed. It also shows, how the optimal amount of social insurance, depends on the strength of the precautionary motives related to risk aversion.
