Sacramento's experiment to clean up an air most foul

Article Abstract:

Sacramento has embarked on a new pollution market credit scheme to address its pollution problem. The Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District has adopted rules which requires new power plant owners to buy pollution 'offsets' and help an existing power plant clean up the air and control contamination. This is in accordance with the federal Clean Air Act which limits new power plants from adding to an area's overall pollution count. Another project involves the development of a new electric trolley that will serve both transportation and anti-pollution needs.

New technologies revitalize wind power

Article Abstract:

Technological advances have made the wind an alternative source of power. The Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) conducted its own experiments on this power option and results showed its viability. The advantages of wind power include its cost-effectiveness and its being environment-friendly. Although the required wind fuel is only available in summer, this can augment the needed power supply during peak seasons. The SMUD is hopeful that government support, public opinion and financing will improve regarding this mode of power generation.

The hydrogen highway

Article Abstract:

President George W. Bush and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger both see hydrogen fuels as vital element of the nation's energy future. But they differ on the type of hydrogen as Bush is tilting toward black hydrogen, which would be created from fossil and nuclear fuels whereas the Schwarzenegger administrationEs focus on green hydrogen, which would be derived from renewable energy sources such as sun, wind.
