Sonny Bono

Article Abstract:

Singer-turned-politician Sonny Bono was one of the most beloved members of the US Congress. He was ridiculed when he first entered politics, just as he was belittled as a singer and songwriter in the 1960s. Critics dismissed Bono for his political inexperience, his lack of a deep understanding of policy and his whimpering oratory. However, during his three-year stay in Capitol Hill, he managed to gain credibility and respect. When he died, he was given the most important funeral in California since the 1994 funeral of Richard Nixon.

A Beltway view of California's own

Article Abstract:

The 'Almanac of American Politics 1996' is a district-by-district analysis of each Congressional seat in the United States. Written by Michael Barone, the 1500-page book has been widely accepted. The book gives a clear view of nation's largest congressional delegation. Some critics think that the book makes certain generalizations and exaggerations at times but it provides a lens through which policy makers in the east can view California.

Susan Yoachum

Article Abstract:

San Francisco Chronicle staffer and writer Susan Yoachum was a joy to work with. She had an intricate grasp of how to survive in the political arena. At age 43, Yoachum died after a battle with cancer in which she engaged the enemy until the bitter end. She continues to read and write politics until death. Yoachum may be dead, but one might reasonably be sure that God would likely have granted her an interview.
