The Assembly's top banana

Article Abstract:

The prospects of the Republicans and Democrats in the 1996 Ca. Assembly election are evenly balanced. Republicans are trying to repeat the winning performance of 1994 in 1996. The Republicans have a large number of incumbents returning from safe seats and are better placed in terms of fund raising and unified leadership. Although the Democrats have some problems, they have stronger national candidates in President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore and a better position on key issues. The huge election-year voter turnout will favor the Democrats.
