Why is the GOP so scared of a Governor Davis?

Article Abstract:

California's lieutenant governor Gray Davis is one of the main reasons for Republicans to avoid joining Pete Wilson's political campaign. Davis was officiating governor most of the time when Pete Wilson was outside of California. Davis was acting governor even at the time of the flood in January 1994. There are many Republicans in California who find this fact disturbing. The powers behind Wilson have devised a strategy under which three former state Republican party chairs have put forth an initiative for November 1996 which would require an immediate election if Wilson became president.

Governor

Article Abstract:

Democrat Gray Davis' and Republican Dan Lungren's battle for California's gubernatorial post has been dubbed as a close fight between 'the tortoise and the tortoise.' Although both experienced career politicians, their personalities, ideologies and world views are, however, as disparate as the parties to which each belongs to. Lungren, who began his political career in the 1970s, is known for being overtly religious and conservative, while Davis, who won his first election in 1982, is more of a savvy politician.
