Will China let Hong Kong be Hong Kong?

Article Abstract:

Many observers are concerned about the UK's transfer of Hong Kong to China in 1997. Anticipating post-transition problems, more than half a million people have left Hong Kong and a quarter million more plan to leave. Critics view China's plan to control the executive, legislature and judiciary system of the autonomous Hong Kong government as a threat to Hong Kong's democracy. Chinese Communist leaders are likely to stall the spread of capitalism and freedom of expression.

Foreign lobbyists will play a greater role in domestic decision making and global accountability is on the rise.
