Leaving some stone unturned: a reassessment of iterative planning theory

Article Abstract:

Decentralized planning procedures based on ideas taken from market socialism literature and decentralized algorithms for the optimal provision of public goods have been the focus of recent research. An adjustment process that does not take place in real time, the failure to consider the relative likelihoods of results arising from decentralized planning and the assumption that planners always observes the full results of their actions are the drawbacks of these research. A Bayesian learning model can be used to address these problems.

Hedonic-based price indexes for housing: theory, estimation, and index construction

Article Abstract:

The basic principles of hedonic-based indexes of housing prices are examined to underscore the empirical importance of the theoretical assumptions underlying the hedonic-based approach. It is shown that the nonparametric technique called 'loess' facilitates the centering of hedonic price function estimation to fixed points. 'Loess' estimates are applied to construct the theoretically desirable Fisher Ideal price indexes.

Rent assistance and housing demand

Article Abstract:

The impact of a rent subsidy program called 'Rent Assistance on The Netherlands' on rental housing demand was analyzed through the use of a structural model. Utilization of the model proved fruitful since it offered important insights into the activities of social programs. Restrictions associated with the structural model were also utilized to help answer questions regarding the Rent Assistance program.
