Bankruptcy risk and state regulation of continuing care retirement communities

Article Abstract:

A study on continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) finds that measures of varying state regulation had no effect on indicators of a CCRC's financial performance relating to bankruptcy risk. CCRCs often require financial investment from residents and state governments issue regulations to protect residents in case of bankruptcy. CCRCs appear less profitable than other types of health care facilities making it unattractive to private investors.
