CDF's Carol Regan

Article Abstract:

The United States government neglects children's health, according to Children's Defense Fund director Carol Regan. For example, Regan notes that the health goals set out in 1978 by the Surgeon General for the 1980s were not achieved by 1990; the health of pregnant women and babies declined in the 1980s. The most important children's health issues include access to primary and preventative care and prenatal care for pregnant women. Further discussion of children's health issues, including the role of hospitals in improving children's health, is presented.

From the ground up: planting the seeds of network development

Article Abstract:

Health networks can take medical care delivery from the competitive to the cooperative model, a logical step in health care reform. The network aims to include patient-centered care, universal access and cost control. Also, emphasis on outcome and preventive care can save money and replace the push to fill hospital beds. Alternative plans for regional networks include limited integration and foundation models.

Six challenges facing Catholic health care marketing

Article Abstract:

The healthcare industry's movement to integrated networks poses six challenges for Catholic healthcare institutions, challenges that threaten the Catholic Church's spiritual integrity. Among these are the potential dilution of the church's influence, socio-economic disparities in the communities served by allied providers and the task of reconciling secular and religious hospital administrators.
