Cultural change - empowerment at Sweetheart Cup Company, Inc., Bakery Division

Article Abstract:

The Bakery Division of Sweetheart Cup Co Inc was able to improve its productivity and profitability by empowering its staff members through team formation and the education of its staff in material resource planning (MRP) methods. In conjunction with empowerment and MRP education, the division's management initiated the concept of handshake management, a concept which emphasizes trust, communication, direction, accountability, involvement and authority. The other management issues which the company addressed were performance reporting, project management, new product development and improvement of customer relations.

The pendulum swings - government as cultivator of change

Article Abstract:

The government's role in controlling health care costs has declined. Many believe that government would be more effective as a regulator of the health insurance industry. Instead, there is increasing support for the theory that market forces will effectively control health care costs. However, government intervention in healthcare still remains in the form of state governments advocating Medicaid managed care strategies to cope with rising costs.

Restructuring military health care: the winds of change blow stronger

Article Abstract:

The Military Health Services System (MHSS) serves about 9 million beneficiaries at a cost that will surpass $15 billion in 1993. Many government and military leaders believe that the system needs to be reorganized. Some feel that a single medical service should serve the Army, Air Force and Navy. An overview of the debate over MHSS reorganization is presented.
