Death spiral or euthanasia? The demise of generous group health insurance coverage

Article Abstract:

Longitudinal data derived from a natural experiment were used to determine the effects of changing from a fixed-dollar contribution policy to a partially risk-adjusted employer-sponsored policy. Analysis of the group health insurance showed that risk adjustment insurance had no significant impact on adverse selection. Other results of the study are presented.

Will Part D produce savings in Part A and Part B? The impact of prescription drug coverage on medicare program expenditures

Article Abstract:

The study was conducted to determine the relationship between prescription drug coverage for Medicare beneficiaries, and lower expenditure for hospital services. Results show that drug coverage does not necessarily affect Medicare spending for hospital or physician services, although drug coverage increases expenditures on medications.

Paying their way? Do nonprofit hospitals justify their favorable tax treatment?

Article Abstract:

The study was conducted to determine whether the tax-exempt status of nonprofit hospitals provides them a competitive edge over investor-owned hospitals in rendering services to medically indigent patients and communities. Results show that both types of hospitals provide an equal amount of benefits to communities.
