The 1990s: prescription for success

Article Abstract:

The principal goal of hospital material management in the 1990s is to generate revenue. This may be carried out by coordinating policies and procedures through the use of a management information system. The information system is linked to all departments to ensure that the patient is billed for all chargeable items. The on-line system also minimizes lost charges, maintains proper charging, maximizes the income of the central sterile services department and reduces inventory levels.

Reengineering materiel management using computer technology

Article Abstract:

The installation of information technology offers the material management department of many hospitals a cost-effective means of automating and reengineering the material management function. However, the creation of a flexible and paperless system requires the integration of several tools. These include the material and accounts payable system, the relational data base management system, the desktop MS-Windows environment, the report writer and the just-in-time inventory program.
