Health care's future? Look to the past

Article Abstract:

Doing what is practical and right are the prevalent themes in healthcare in the past and in the present and these two themes will likely be prevalent in future healthcare systems. Finding a middle ground between the expressive side and the instrumental side is always a tricky subject yet it will be this quest for a middle ground that will hopefully produce proactive thinkers that the healthcare system needs.

Strategies for materiel management executives

Article Abstract:

The organization and financing of health care services by health networks and managed care plans can result in additional regulatory approaches for the public's protection, the centralization of tertiary health services, and greater layoffs for non patient care staff. Materiel officials, however, must address the cost reduction and staffing strategies of health maintenance organizations.

Survival strategies in the era of managed care

Article Abstract:

The evolution of managed care has forced the healthcare industry to undergo restructuring and posed threats to the existence of materiel management. Materiel management is therefore advised to contemplate on adopting techniques that may help ensure their survival such as the development of new supply management techniques and institutional and individual responses.
