Whose business is fitness?

Article Abstract:

Healthcare organizations are increasingly providing fitness services. Such serivces allow those organizations to participate in a business whose retail revenues will near $100 billion by 2000. Five principles that can help assure the success of hospital fitness clubs are discussed. Hospital fitness operations must understand their strategic importance, know their customers, offer a differentiated product, hire excellent talent, and market intelligently.

Obstetrical patient satisfaction

Article Abstract:

Research concerning obstetrical patient satisfaction is reviewed with the intent of bringing more clarity to the subject. Having a sense of control over the birthing experience can significantly impact a woman's sense of satisfaction with that experience. Other factors that affect satisfaction include participation in decisionmaking, a support person's presence, nursing support, length of stay, and physical environment.

Shoot for the 'stars:' hospitals should hire worker types most likely to satisfy patients

Article Abstract:

Research has shown that those individuals that are committed to an organization and highly involved in their jobs will receive many service commendations. These findings are also true in the healthcare industry. Those individuals who provide excellent patient care and care about the hospital where they are employed will receive many commendations from patients.
