Family-focused interventions for survivors of sudden cardiac arrest

Article Abstract:

An overview of currently recommended and future intervention programs for families of heart attack survivors and those with implanted defibrillators is presented. Currently available programs are limited to support groups and providing educational information. Studies of heart attack survivors and their families have identified strategies aimed at better addressing patient and family needs. Recommendations include better communication, education, and availability.

Detection and prevention of cardiac risk factors: health risk assessment and targeted follow-up in a managed care population

Article Abstract:

Health risk assessment can improve the efficiency of follow-up in a targeted managed care population. Any application of such a system requires cooperation between physicians and all clinical staff members. Interventions which focus on behavioral aspects of care will tend to receive support from physicians. The patients in this study were part of a managed care system and responded positively to a brief health risk assessment.

Activity progression in acute cardiac patients

Article Abstract:

Researchers have highlighted and analyzed recently published studies addressing activity recommendations following a heart attack. Results of heart work calculations for basic daily living tasks are presented. Carefully monitored and progressively challenging tasks can frequently be introduced within a day of a stabilized heart attack. Several patient factors can alter activity recommendations following a heart attack.
