Rethinking PHOs

Article Abstract:

Physician/hospital organizations must be structured so that they can compete in a managed care system. Physicians must take responsibility for controlling provided care guidelines and management. Hospitals need to begin reading market forces in a far more competitively priced environment. Both parties should understand the importance of capitation as a cost-control mechanism, and should invest in outpatient facilities and home care consultants.
