Managed care: where will your hospital fit in?

Article Abstract:

Managed care programs are becoming an integral part of US health care reform. The best-known managed care programs are health maintenance organizations, but other models are also gaining ground, such as independent practice associations or preferred provider organizations. However, unless fundamental changes in the US health care system are made to encourage efficiency, these systems will have little effect on health care costs.

Survey outlines hospital employee health benefits

Article Abstract:

A survey of health insurance offered to hospital employees shows that 77% receive individual benefits. Percentage figures are shown for coverage in nine areas of the United States. Also shown are statistics for coverage of mental health and substance abuse benefits, limits on outpatient services and coverage for HIV and AIDS infections.
