Medical Record Department Performance: An Increasing Concern

Article Abstract:

The medical records department in a hospital is receiving increasing attention as its importance is magnified due to Medicare's prospective pricing policies based on diagnosis related groups. It will have the responsibility of keeping accurate and detailed records so that full and proper reimbursement will be made to the hospital. An operations review can determine if this is done in an effective manner. It can evaluate departmental and environmental efficiency and offer recommendations for improving the rate at which records are processed, work flow patterns, and coding and distracting practices.

Medical practice evaluation and analysis

Article Abstract:

The financial uncertainty of physician services and increasing costs of medical practice expenses has made it essential for both hospitals and physicians to carefully evaluate medical practice management. Hospitals must have substantial understanding of the operations of medical practice to reap gainful dividends in operation. Since most physicians turn to their hospitals for support, it is inevitable that hospitals develop plans for increasing physican services.

The valuation of medical practices

Article Abstract:

Most hospitals generally desire to control primary care as much as their their physicians desire to affiliate with them and receive specific salaries. Thus, the need for a valuation of medical practices is developed. Hospitals choose to tender affiliation agreements with medical practitioners because these will position them strategically in the health care market, assist medical staff development and provide a transition base for retiring and new physicians.
