Modeling physicians' prescribing decisions for patients with panic disorder

Article Abstract:

A survey revealed that family practitioners and general practitioners who use medication to treat panic-disorder patients most often use benzodiazepines or benzodiazepines in conjunction with antidepressants. Physicians generally do not make distinctions between patients with or without phobic avoidance, when making medication decisions. Physicians do, however, carefully consider side effects and drug interactions.

Competitive dynamics in pharmaceuticals: the market position of a drug dictates the best promotion strategy

Article Abstract:

The effects of market structure, competitive strategy and vendor resources on a prescription drug's competitiveness are examined. Past studies have found that these variables blunt the positive effect of high market share on profitability. The current study followed the market positions of 87 new drugs introduced in the US between 1973 and 1982. The results revealed four distinct competitive positions.

Measuring physician attitudes of service quality

Article Abstract:

The Resource-Based Relative Value Scale (RBRVS), incorporated into Medicare in 1990, lacks a measure of physician-service quality. A study of physicians' service-quality perceptions, intended to help determine if and how a quality measure could be added to the RBRVS, revealed that physicians' perceptions of service-quality determinants are incongruent with those of individuals in other industries.
