Multiple-perspectives model of medical technology

Article Abstract:

Current conceptual portrayals of medical technology are analyzed and a new model incorporating various perspectives regarding its definition are presented. The perspectives are physical, information, knowledge, change, process and enabling resource. These perspectives are consolidated to develop an organizational structure and an integrative model. The model is able to define the complexities of medical technology. Medical technology as information can be differentiated from medical technology as device or system.

Denials of staff privileges face increased antitrust scrutiny

Article Abstract:

The 1991 decision of the US Supreme Court on the Summit Health v. Pinhas case eliminated the requirement of the Sherman Act that cases of staff privileges denial should affect interstate commerce. However, this action has led hospitals and their staff to greater risks of antitrust exposure. Thus, the situation urgently requires a review of staff priveleges, practices and procedures to avoid antitrust actions and penalties.
