Prevention is the best medicine

Article Abstract:

Advocate Lutheran General HealthPartners, a physician-hospital organization (PHO) in Oakbrook, IL, has a procedure in place for its new Medicare enrollees that thoroughly screens them for health problems and helps them take a proactive approach to their own health care. Each member is assigned a nurse case manager and encouraged to see a doctor within a specified time frame. Although the screening system has not been running long enough to determine if it can cut costs and improve quality of care, the PHO is confident it will do so in the long run.

Ka-boom!

Article Abstract:

Keeping the information flowing in a large healthcare system is critical not only to the system's operation but also to the lives of its patients. A disaster recovery plan is therefore essential for when a system faces a natural or man-made disaster. Since such a plan is time-intensive and expensive to develop, some hospitals and systems decide to contract with firms that provide alternate data centers or consulting services. A list of 12 things to consider in developing a plan is presented.
