Prominence of withdrawal symptoms in polydrug-exposed infants

Article Abstract:

As many as 200,000 infants are born each year in the US to women who used drugs during pregnancy. Infants exposed to more than one drug before birth will undergo various symptoms of withdrawal, and this article describes such symptoms and suggests appropriate nursing interventions.

Clinical management of methadone dependence during pregnancy

Article Abstract:

Perinatal and neonatal nurses must consider several factors when caring for pregnant women maintained on methadone treatment. These include antepartum issues such as dosage and pharmacological considerations, and postpartum concerns such as breastfeeding and neonatal withdrawal.
